Type of sea containers

The containers protect the merchandise to be transported. Depending on the type of product and its requirements, there is a wide variety of containers. For example, if you need to stay fixed, if it is sensitive to temperature, if it is resistant or needs some extra protection.

Standardized measures of ISO containers
The ISO-668: 2 standard is the one that establishes the measures, size and shape of the containers, for both national and international transportation. Generally the ISO standard recognizes three measures:

  • Standard 20
  • Standard 40
  • Standard High Cube 40: Facilitates a 13% increase in internal capacity and is used for heavier loads.

Types of containers
Dry Van

They are basic standard containers, hermetically sealed without refrigeration or ventilation. This type of container is the most common, used as general merchandise cargo. We can find them in three sizes according to the ISO standard: Standard 20, Standard 40 and Standard High Cube 40.

Reefer containers

In order to keep some food products in perfect condition, a type of transport capable of controlling the interior temperature is required, generally by means of refrigeration. This is the case of some fruits and vegetables, meats, fish, dairy products, juices and other food liquids. Reefer containers allow fresh products to be transported, frozen or at a specific temperature. These have intelligent systems and the appropriate technology to maintain the required conditions.

Open Top

They are characterized by being open at the top, usually with a removable canvas roof. In this way it allows the merchandise to protrude from above, although in that case there is an extra economic charge, depending on the volume exceeded.

Open Side

In a similar way to Open Top containers, the Open Site are characterized by having one of the sides of the open container. Normally this type of container is used when the load exceeds in length the dimensions of the traditional container.

Flat Rack

Employees for atypical loads, this type of containers lack side walls and even, in some cases, without front or rear walls. The Flat Rack containers are designed for large volume and dimension goods, as well as heavy loads. Despite not having some walls, the Flat Rack containers maintain their structure, which is suitable for multimodal transport.

Tank container

Containers for the transport of liquids in bulk, by means of an internal cistern. The fact of transporting liquids through a cylindrical tank minimizes contamination and loss of product. In addition, the cistern can be easily cleaned and used for other types of products, as long as they are in the same category.

Flexi tank

They are an alternative to traditional tank-containers. Employees for the transport of liquids in bulk, it is a flexible polyethylene tank of a single use (but recyclable) deniminado flexibag. The FlexiTank guarantees maximum food safety, reduces costs and minimizes transshipment time.
