The Generalitat calls for a change of priorities in the Mediterranean Corridor

The Generalitat of Catalonia calls for a "change of priorities" of the Mediterranean Corridor with the aim of providing an adequate service to companies on the Mediterranean coast. Isidre Gavín affirms that it is necessary to "correct the radial planning of the Mediterranean Corridor and prioritize its connections with ports, companies and with Europe". Gavin asks to focus on facilitating the transport of goods and not only on the high speed for passengers.

The Mediterranean Corridor must unite the entire European Mediterranean coast, with which, it is a strategic axis for the communications of the country with the rest of Europe. According to its promoters, the Corridor will imply a saving of time in the transport of 40% in goods and 35% in passengers. In addition, it is expected to contribute some 50,000 million euros to GDP and 130,000 jobs.

Although 60% of the investment has already been executed to carry out the Corridor, only 34% is put into service, a figure that does not allow generating the return that would like. After the numerous delays in the creation of the infrastructure, few people believe that the Corridor will become operative in 2021.
